From Sept. 21 to 23, 1993, three Tupolev Transair Georgia civilian airliners were shot down by missiles fired by rebels in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, Georgia, killing 136 in total. The worst incident of the three was a Tu-154 flying from Tbilisi, which was shot down while attempting to land at Sukhumi airport and crashed on the runway, killing 108 of the 132 people on board.
