Libyan Airlines Flight 114 entered Israeli-controlled airspace over the Sinai Peninsula due to the bad weather and an equipment failure when it was in flight from Tripoli, Libya, via Benghazi to Cairo on Feb. 21, 1973. The Boeing 727 was intercepted by two Israeli F-4 Phantom II fighters, refused to land, and was shot down, killing 108 passengers and crew on board and injuring five.
