Researchers at the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University have conducted annual reports of the Academic Ranking of World Universities since 2003.

Lancaster University is a leading research-intensive university in Lancaster, England. It was established under the Royal Charter of Government of U.K. in 1964 and initially based in St. Leonard's Gate until moving to a beautiful campus in Bailrigg in 1968.
Along with the universities of Durham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York, Lancaster is a member of the N8 Group of research universities. It is a collegiate university with eight undergraduate colleges and a ninth for graduates, offering innovative, flexible and attractive programs in arts, business, medicine, science, technology and social sciences.
Lancaster was ranked seventh in the 2012 Guardian University Guide, ninth in the 2012 Complete University Guide, eighth in the Times Higher Education Table and ninth in the 2012 Good University Guide. In the most recent UK Research Assessment Exercise, 92 percent of its research was recognized as world leading or internationally significant and some key areas of research were ranked top in the U.K.
