Mr. Mi Pengfei, vice president of the choir, told China.org.cn that the singers are all employees or former employees from UN Headquarters in New York. Their jobs range from editors, translators, librarians, tour guides, security officers, messengers, chauffeurs, accountants, photographers to top-level managers. The choir was founded in 1947 by staff members who wanted to get together to share music from each others' countries. |

Guillermo Vaisman, the conductor and musical director, is a famous Argentine musician. Over the past 20 years, he has conducted more than 400 concerts in Argentina, Italy, Switzerland, Uruguay and the United States. He joined the United Nations Singers in June 2004. Vaisman said the choir performed at Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University last week and would head back to the US this week. |
