Cesare Prandelli was a midfielder who switched teams from Atalanta to Juventus in 1979 and played with Juventus for six seasons. From 1990 to 1997 he coached Atalanta's youth squad with excellent results. In May 2010, the Italian Football Federation publicly announced that Prandelli will take over from Lippi as the head of their national team after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, he quit as the Italian national manager after Italy's failure to advance from the group stage in this year's World Cup.
