On Feb. 25, 2009, a Turkish Airlines flight crashed into a field about 1.5 kilometers north of the runway when landing at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The aircraft broke into three pieces, but luckily did not catch fire. Among the 134 passengers on board, only nine died and another 80 got injured.
