On Aug. 16, 2010, a Boeing 737 passenger jet crashed and broke into three pieces after landing on Colombia’s San Andres Island in stormy weather conditions. The only fatality to occur was a 68-year-old passenger who in fact died from a heart attack. The plane, carrying 125 passengers and six crew members, was 80 meters removed from the San Andres Island runway when a stroke of lightning caused it to land abruptly and slide onto the runway. It was a miracle that almost everyone survived. Dozens of passengers were taken to hospital; only five were in serious condition.
