Huang Guangyu was famous for founding GOME Group, one of the largest consumer electronics retailers in China. He has been named the wealthiest person in mainland China three times by Hurun, in 2004, 2005 and 2008. Huang gained notoriety after being caught for illegal business dealings, insider trading and corporate bribery. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Though he no longer is in charge of his company, he remains a major shareholder.
