Danny Chan (Sept. 7, 1958-Oct. 25, 1993) was a very popular Cantopop singer, composer and actor in Hong Kong in the 1980's. In 1979, his first signature song Tears for You made him a teenage idol. Some of his hit songs include I Just Love You, Take Care of Yourself Tonight and What One Wants in Life.The melancholy and romantic emotions conveyed in his ballads enthralled his fans even today.
Chan passed away on October 25, 1993 due to progressive brain failure after falling into coma for 17 months. Speculations that sleeping pills with alcohol led to his coma. In 2009, Chan was awarded the Golden Needle Award by Radio Television Hong Kong to commemorate his contributions to Cantopop music.
