The year 2010 was doomed to be unusual beyond all question due to the series of earthquakes that swept across the globe, potentially implying the arrival of the disastrous predictions of Mayan prophecy in 2012. The following catchwords of 2010 are not to be missed.
A Very Difficult Decision
Qihoo 360, one of China's leading online security software developers, was forced to withdraw Koukou Guard, a security software that triggered a war with Tencent, China's largest dot.com firm based on market value. |
"We've made a very difficult decision" is a trending catchphrase among Chinese netizens parodying QQ's message to its users on the current feud between Tencent QQ and 360 Safeguard.
QQ is the most popular instant messenger service in China while 360 is one of the most popular antivirus programs in China. On November 3rd, QQ alleged that its software was not working on computers equipped with 360's antivirus software and sent an ultimatum to its users to choose between the two in an open letter that starts off with, "We've made a very difficult decision…"
Many QQ users felt taken advantage of by QQ and believe that QQ has no place or right in compelling a choice between the two. Some netizens modeled the sentences used by QQ in the letter to create a series of jokes. For example:
"Microsoft:
When you see this letter, we have just made a difficult decision. Because two Chinese programs have severely affected our Windows services, we push you to stop using 360 and QQ."
"NOKIA:
We have just made a difficult decision. If our mobile phones detect an iPhone within 10 meters, they will automatically explode."
