Slovenia finished group B of the 2010 World Basketball Championships with a narrow 65-60 victory against Iran on Thursday.
The evening's match in Istanbul's Abdi Ipekci Arena was a close one with Slovenia leading throughout but Iran closing the gap in the 2nd and 4th quarters.
After falling behind in the first quarter 19-6, Iran closed the gap but remained behind 28-23.
Slovenia picked up momentum again in the 3rd quarter bringing the score to 52-34, but Iran once again closed the gap with 26 points but was unable to defeat Slovenia which won by just five points.
Slovenian Goran Dragic who plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns, scored the game's highest of 18 points. Iran's top scorer with 15 points was Hamed Haddadi of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Slovenia finished its group with four wins against one defeat for the second place and will play against Australia in the knockouot stage on Sunday.
Iran exited the championship with one win against four losses.
