Tie Ning (鐵凝) was born in 1957 in Beijing. She is currently serving as chairperson of the Writers Association of China. Her works include the novels "Rose Door," "The Bathing Women," and "Stupid Flower," as well as more than 100 novellas and short stories such as "Oh, Xiangxue" and "How Long is Forever."
She has also written essays and prose articles, more than 4 million words in total. Her works have won six national awards including the Lu Xun Literary Prize and more than 30 awards from literature magazines. She wrote the screenplay for her own story "Oh, Xiangxue," which received high honors at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival. Her work has been translated into English, Russian, German, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Vietnamese.
