Sweltering Weather Lingers in Jiangsu and Zhejiang
Adjust font size:

The meteorological station of east China's Jiangsu Province on Sunday issued an orange alert of high temperature weather for the upcoming 24 hours.

The alert signals that parts of the province will endure temperatures exceeding 37 degrees centigrade. It is the fifth consecutive day for the station to issue an orange alert since July 25.

The provincial meteorological station issued the alert at 4:03 PM, Sunday, forecasting that in the coming 24 hours, high temperatures will hit cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Yangzhou and Taizhou, with the highest surging to 37 degrees centigrade or above.

The neighboring Zhejiang provincial meteorological station also announced that in the past consecutive days, 50 percent of the counties and cities in Zhejiang have endured temperatures between 39 to 41 degrees centigrade, setting new records.

It forecast that the coming ten days are still hard for residents there, for any sign of cool wind or rain has yet to show. The provincial authorities are mulling making artificial rain to disperse the heat there.
