Two Iranian Olympic athletes grant their medals to earthquake victims
TEHRAN, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two Iranian athletes have presented their Olympic medals to the country's recent earthquake victims.
Ghasem Gholamreza Rezaei, Iran's gold winner of Greco-Roman wrestler in 96 kg category at London Olympics, granted his gold medal to the victims of recent Iran's earthquake, the semi- official Fars news agency reported Monday.
Also, the Iranian discus thrower Ehsan Hadadi who won the Olympic silver medal, presented his medal to the quake-hit people, the state IRINN TV reported Monday.
Hadadi made history by winning the country's first track-and- field medal in the Olympic Games.
A 6.2-magnitude temblor, with a depth of 10 km, hit Ahar at 4: 53 p.m. (GMT 1223) Saturday, while another 6-magnitude earthquake, also with a depth of 10 km, struck nearby Varzaqan at 5:04 p.m. ( GMT 1234), according to Iranian Seismological Center.
Iran's Health Minster said Monday that the death toll of Saturday's strong twin quakes in northwest Iran has risen to 306, and 3037 others have been injured, Fars reported. Enditem
