On April 30, 2012, an unnamed ferry carrying about 350 passengers capsized in the Brahmaputra River in northeastern India. The catastrophe killed at least 103 people.

Though many ships today are well-equipped with advanced technology, they are not immune to sudden changes in the weather and waters, nor can they always avoid the consequences of human negligence.
