Chinese leaders and the government are deeply concerned about Chinese nationals who were injured or killed in the recent Boston Marathon bombing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Wednesday.
Hua made the remarks at a daily press briefing.
Officials from the Chinese Consulate General in New York confirmed Tuesday that a Chinese national died in Monday's Boston Marathon bombing, adding that another national was injured, but is in stable condition.
Hua said the Foreign Ministry and Consulate General in New York have contacted the relatives of the deceased victim and consulate officials have visited the injured victim.
The injured victim has been identified as Zhou Danling, a graduate student at Boston University.
She has undergone two surgeries since being admitted to Boston Medical Center and is now in stable condition, according to consulate officials.
"The Chinese Consulate General in New York will provide all necessary assistance in helping with rescue efforts," said Hua.
The blasts happened around 3 p.m. Monday, killing at least three people and injuring more than 140. Endi
