On Wednesday,F(xiàn)rench President Nicolas Sarkozy sent his condolences to Belgium after a fatal Swiss bus crash killed 28 people, most of them being children aged about 12.
"I would, as President, like to offer our condolences to our Belgian friends. Imagine these families, their pain, ... There is not a more appalling tragedy," Sarkozy said.
In an interview with the local broadcaster Europe 1, the French Head of State stressed the solidarity of Paris with the Belgian authorities to "assist them in anything" they should need.
A Swiss bus carrying 52 Belgians home from a school ski trip crashed into the wall of a tunnel in the Valais region of Switzerland late Tuesday night, killing 28 people, with 22 of them being children.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
