A senior officer of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China pledged Monday to beef up military exchange with Australia.
Liao Xilong, director of the PLA General Logistics Department, made the remarks when meeting with visiting Australian Air Vice Marshal Margaret Staib.
Hailing the deep cooperation between the two countries, Liao said the PLA hopes to expand its cooperation with the Australian armed forces to push bilateral military ties to a new level.
Liao said China keeps a relatively low per capita defense budget.
Staib said boosting military exchange between the two countries helps promote the development of the two armed forces.
The PLA has played an important role in humanitarian work, Staib noted, adding that Australia's armed forces are ready to learn from China's experience in military logistics.
