Chinese instructors guided the politicians' brushes, as some struggled and some excelled, but most seemed to enjoy the challenge and appreciate the art, and Chinese culture.
Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck, chair of the European Liberal Democrats and Reform Party, said it was her first time to try Chinese calligraphy, and she admired the aesthetics.
"I have appreciated calligraphy for a long time. I find it beautiful," she said.
She added that she visits calligraphy exhibitions whenever she gets the chance.
"Chinese culture is so impressive," Annemie said. "I especially admire Chinese paintings and contemporary art."
