Senior Chinese legislator Wang Zhaoguo met with President of the Malaysian Senate Wong Foon Meng during his goodwill visit here on Monday, both expecting to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments.
Wang. vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislative body, said good exchanges and cooperation between the NPC and the Malaysian Parliament will play an important role in promoting bilateral relations and deepening the friendship between the people of the two countries.
He said the NPC has been attaching great importance to developing friendly relations with the Malaysian Parliament and hoped the two sides would continue to maintain high-level visits.
He called on the two sides to strengthen exchanges and learn from each other the experiences in legislation, supervision and governance in a bid to further vitalize relations of the two countries.
On bilateral relations, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, hailed the long history of friendship between China and Malaysia.
He said China and Malaysia have made significant achievements in cooperation in various fields over the past years under the push of the leaders of the two countries.
He also highlighted the joint efforts made by the two sides in combating financial crisis and maintaining the bilateral trade above 50 billion U.S. dollars for two consecutive years, which, he said, have benefited the people of both countries.
He expressed China's willingness to continue deepening and promoting the strategic partnership with Malaysia.
Wong Foon Meng said it is of great significance in maintaining friendly partnership between the two parliaments and the Malaysian Senate is willing to step up exchanges and cooperation with the NPC and makes contribution to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Wang arrived here Sunday evening in company with an NPC delegation after winding up visit to Egypt.
