| Carnarvon of Western Australia now is bracing cyclone Carlos, in wake of a flood peak on Saturday, which has since receded.
Carlos is expected to turn into a category two cyclone over the ocean west of the Kimberley coast some time on Monday, Bureau of Meteorology said on Sunday.
Communities in WA's Kimberley region are being told to prepare for wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers an hour.
Carnarvon has been threatened by flooding over the weekend. Carnarvon Shire president Dudley Maslen said on Saturday parts of the Gascoyne River peaked at 7.1 meters.
Carnarvon has been spared further damage after flooding on Saturday left the town relatively unscathed, allowing residents to focus on Carlos. As Carlos moves down the Pilbara coast towards Exmouth and Carnarvon, there is the possibility of destructive winds.
"We'll be as ready as we can be for that but, a bit like the one that went across Queensland, you can be as ready as you like but if it's that big there's bugger all you can do," Maslen said. |
