Climate change will also be on the agenda at the G20 Summit, and China is doing its part to tackle pollution. It aims to achieve this by restructuring its energy sector. In Hebei Province, where air pollution is a significant issue, the use of green energy is being well promoted. Now China is one of the largest green energy markets in the world.
China now is the top energy consumer in the world, but about 70 percent of the consumption comes from coal. This low-efficency and high-pollution structure has become the major cause of the bad air-quality here, but it's something the country has been trying to reform.?
"The source of air pollution is mainly from the use of coal, it takes around 70 percent of the total energy consumption and 80 percent for total electricity output. So the introduction of clean energies is a major issue we are facing now. It will be the solution to air pollution," said Li Ping, director of Inst. of Quantitative & Technical Economics, CASS.
Green energy is the answer. China is now one of the largest green energy market in the world. Of its total power generated, over 20% is from renewable energy, including water, wind and solar. Yingli Solar in Baoding, Hebei Province, is one of China's top solar power panel producers. And now it is becoming China's top solar power plant builder.?
"Our projects now have a total volume of 400 megawatt, which are mainly in Hebei Province. There will be two power plants combined to the grid at the end of November. Because of government policy support and the decreasing costs, solar power generation has become a huge market for the future, and we believe the domestic market will be doubled in 2015," said Xing Zhou, deputy general manager of Yingli Solar Power Investment Co., Ltd..
According to the act plan release in APEC held in Beijing. China sets a target for its greenhouse gas output to peak "around 2030", and intends to increase the share of non-fossil fuels in primary energy consumption to around 20% by 2030.
