Police in Bangladesh say a search operation is underway after a ferry carrying some 200 passengers sank in the Padma River in the central Munshiganj district, about 37 kilometers southeast of the capital Dhaka.
Local officials say the ferry capsized around 11 am local time. The Padma is one of the three biggest rivers in Bangladesh. Approximately 100 passengers were rescued, but the exact number of missing passengers could not be immediately verified. The cause of the accident has not been determined.
