Hong Kong police say they have arrested a woman accused of beating her Indonesian maid. The case has triggered outrage over its alleged brutality.
The case of Eriwana Sulistyaningsih drew attention after photos of her injuries started circulating among Indonesians in Hong Kong. Thousands of people rallied on Sunday to demand justice for her.
Eriwana arrived in Hong Kong in May last year. A migrant workers’ union says she was tortured by her employers on a daily basis and forced to wear a diaper.
Eriwana was allowed to return to her home country earlier this month after her injuries prevented her from working . She is now recovering in hospital.
