Hackers have taken control of The Associated Press’s twitter accounts, sending out a false tweet about an attack at the White House that injured President Barack Obama.
The false tweet said there had been two explosions at the White House and that President Barack Obama was injured. The attacks on AP’s Twitter account and the AP Mobile Twitter account were preceded by phishing attempts on AP’s Corporate network.
The AP suspended its Twitter account after the hack and said it was working to correct the issue. The White House later confirmed that the president was unharmed. The New York Times reported a group calling itself the Syrian Electronic Army, which is supportive of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, had claimed responsibility.
