The Intermediate People's Court of Hefei city in Auhui province has started the trial for the intentional homicide case of Bogu Kailai and her accomplice Zhang Xiaojun. The victim was a British businessman named Neil Heywood.
The People's Procuratorate of Hefei submitted the charge to the city's People's Court on July 26th.
The defendant Bogu Kailai and her son were involved in financial disputes with the victim Neil Heywood. Bogu Kailai and Zhang Xiaojun, the other defendant, poisoned him to death on the night of November 13th, 2011.
The prosecutors displayed evidence and legal authorities testified.
The lawyers of Bogu Kailai and Zhang Xiaojun, designated by themselves, defended them in court.
The lawsuit representative appointed by Neil Heywood's relatives participated in the hearing and expressed his opinions.
The two defendants, Bogu Kailai, and Zhang Xiaojun, as well as some relatives and friends of Neil Heywood and some officials from the British embassy to China, reporters, NPC deputies, CPPCC members, as well as representatives from all walks of life were present at the trial.
The court declared an adjournment and the verdict will be given later.
On 30th of July, former deputy chief of Chongqing Public Security Bureau Guo Weiguo, former Chonqing Interpol Corps Commander Li Yang, former Chonqing Criminal Technical Investigation Corps chief Wang Pengfei, former Executive Deputy Director General of Sha-Ping-Ba Public Security Sub-Bureau Wang Zhiyin, were also charged with subverting the law for personal gain, to cover up for Bogu Kailai. Their trial will start on Friday.
