Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou has put forward an "East China Sea Peace Proposal" on Sunday, amid the escalating tensions over the Diaoyu Islands. This was reported by Taiwan media. Ma Ying-jeou called on all sides to deal with the disputes properly to maintain peace in the East China Sea.
Ma says relevant parties should exercise self-control and not escalate antagonistic actions. They should put aside disputes and not give up dialogue. Meanwhile, the parties concerned should abide by international laws and solve conflicts by peaceful means.
Relevant sides should seek common ground and discuss East China Sea Code of Conduct together. He adds that a mechanism should be set up and all sides should explore resources in the East China Sea in a cooperative way.
