Tens of thousands of Yemenis have rallied in the capital, Sanaa, and several other cities. They’re demanding the removal of the former president’s relatives and allies from key military and security positions.
The demonstrators took to the streets after Friday prayers. They’ve vowed to continue until the sons and family members of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh are expelled from their posts. Saleh’s son and nephew command the powerful Republican Guard and Central Security forces.
He himself stepped down in February after more than a year of protest. The opposition accuses him of meddling in state affairs and trying to undermine reform efforts by his successor, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
A big demonstration was organized in Yemen’s second most populous city, Taiz. Smaller rallies took place in other cities.
