China has reiterated its sovereignty over islands in the South China Sea, saying it opposes any military intervention in the area. The Defense Ministry made the remarks at Tuesday's press conference.
It also said that the country's first aircraft carrier will have to go through more tests and training before it’s decided if it’s fit to be deployed for service.
Geng Yansheng, Spokesperson, Ministry of Defense, said, "According to relevant rules, a regular combat-readiness patrol system has been established in sea waters under China's jurisdiction. The system was established to maintain the country's territorial sovereignty and safeguard its maritime rights, and it is not targeting any other country or has any specific goals. And the establishment of relevant institutions in Chinese territory is an internal matter, and is not connected to other nations."
