More than 300 residents in Altay City, in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region who were trapped by torrential rains have been rescued.
Heavy rains have pounded the area, cutting off roads, flooding homes and crop land and affecting thousands of people. The lower-lying township was home to hundreds of people. It took search and rescue teams more than 2 hours to save the 300 trapped residents. Workers also cleared debris from the area, including a truck that crashed into a nearby bridge.
