Former Chinese soccer chief Xie Yalong has been sentenced to 10.5 years in prison for taking bribes.
Xie was charged with 12 counts of accepting bribes, which totalled more than 1.7 million yuan or 273,000 US dollars. Xie was also fined 200,000 yuan, or 31,340 US dollars. The former director of the Chinese Football Administrative Center, Nan Yong, has been found guilty for his role in the scandal that brought the CFA to its knees.
A court in Dandong, Liaoning province announced that Nan was found guilty of taking bribes worth 235,000 U.S. dollars...and has been sentenced to 10 and half years in prison. Yu Shaohui, a former official of the Chinese men’s national football team will also serve a 10 and a half year term after being found guilty of corruption.
Four former Chinese national players -- Shen Si, Qi Hong, Jiang Jin and Li Ming, were also charged with taking a total of 1.27 million U.S. dollars to fix a league game. They were handed prison terms ranging from 5 and a half to 6 years. Former CFA official Li Dongsheng was sentenced to nine years in prison for bribery and embezzlement.
