The February temperatures are decidedly spring-like during Milan Fashion Week, which was in its fifth day Sunday. The rising temperature affirms some designers' choices with summertime looks are spilling onto Milan's winter runway.
Dolce & Gabbana's golden Baroque look in Milan |
Black velvet, black lace, black chiffon and tons of gold are the basic ingredients of the dramatic Dolce&Gabbana winter collection. Chandeliers dripped with roses above the runway, while an oversized gilded mirror doubled the splendor of the outfits during Sunday's show.
There was an aristocratic feel to the collection, from the gilded head dressings, to the little buttoned booties. Styles ranged from coats to capes, from long sheaths to ballooned shorts, from pleated skirts to ruffled tops.
Designer Consuelo Castiglioni's collection carried a strong graphic element, both in the printed lightweight dresses, and the bold colors on wool crepe dresses and suits.
Marni's palette was black, tobacco, yellow and red, often with contrasting pastels. Castiglioni's silhouette was offbeat. Jackets flared over pants and skirts. A fur shawl that finishes in wool crepe gave the impression of a belted fur-collared coat from the front but in reality was completely open in the back.
Frankie Morello's show paid tribute to American rock'n'roll, as the Italian label paraded men's blazers in wild colors and biker jackets for girls.
The mix & match collection interpreted the street fashion trends for young shoppers in love with a vitamin-charged American image. Echoes of the 80s were seen in the studded dresses and shoes.
