An Australian museum is celebrating a milestone birthday with both new and prehistoric guests. But what's helping raise visitors' adrenalin is a live dinosaur that dashes around the exhibition hall. Animatronic dinosaurs mingle with the crowds in order to bring history alive.
The Queensland Museum of Natural History in Brisbane is marking its reopening after renovation with a party. A welcoming committee of animatronic dinosaurs delights and frightens young visitors. Most of them prefer their dinosaurs behind glass.
Visitors said, "Someone's a little bit scared of the dinosaur. He's a bit too real I think."
"It's educational and it's fun! She just got to pat a dinosaur!"
150 years since opening its doors, this museum has seen all walks of life. In recent months the museum has undergone a 14 million US dollar renovation, and it now houses more than a million exhibits.
Director of the Queensland Museum, Graeme Potter, describes the new Interactive Discovery Centre, designed for school age children.
Dr. Graeme Potter, director of Queensland Museum, said, "We're a place for you to explore, to learn, to discover and enjoy."
The museum also houses a special exhibition to remember the floods that devastated the region last summer. The disaster has been documented in photos, videos and objects. According to the director, the exhibition is a way of looking forward.
