While folks in China are busy preparing for the upcoming Spring Festival, in Europe some of the world's top-class clothing brands are introducing their latest winter collections for men. And since fashion houses like Giorgio Armani and Burberry are quite familiar to Chinese fashionistas,
The winter Giorgio Armani 2013 menswear collection. |
The winter Giorgio Armani 2013 menswear collection presented Sunday was subdued but not somber, revisiting old classics and giving them a contemporary twist.
The favorite item of the collection is the scarf. Almost as wide as a pashmina, or long and skinny like a football scarf, the new scarf shields the Armani man from chilly winds, whatever their origin.
Black leather, which appears almost everywhere this round of menswear preview showings, at Armani becomes a collarless trench coat cut close to the body and belted at the waist.
Designer Roberto Cavalli presented his latest Mens Winter collection in Milan over the weekend. He has been collaborating with his son Daniele, who is in charge of the men's line for the label.
Daniele Cavalli, fashion designer, said, "I think elegance has no age. And style has no age and I work a lot to have these two things come up really strong, and at the same time I mix that with the Cavalli history Cavalli artisan of the brand and of his way that he built the roots of the factory."
In a mainly black collection, the animal patterns and embroidery provide the finer details. There is an evolution of the fit: underlined by a slightly narrower shoulder, trousers sitting looser on the thighs, refined shirts from pashmina, and destructured coats with raglan sleeves. Essential leather Chelsea boots completed the classic look.
Like most Italian designers, Cavalli is sticking to the traditional and familiar in their menswear collection for next winter.
The Burberry Prorsum collection for next fall and winter previewed Saturday on the first day of Milan Fashion Week. The tailored suit and heritage trench are at the heart of the Burberry style, so is the umbrella, which features duck and hound animal head handles. Besides, the city persona carries a leather patchwork document case.
Head designer Christopher Bailey created luxurious top coats with velvet collars, hand applied according to the fashion notes. Perhaps inspired by the English hunt, Bailey incorporates into some garments images of foxes in a big way.
Bailey infuses a note of fun in the English gentleman's buttoned-down world with his offbeat animal motifs, as well as polka dotted and striped patterned shirts and ties.
