The 2011 National Karate Championships came to a close on Monday in Xiamen.
Eight single titles were split between four teams from Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Macao, and China's mainland. The mainland team is called West Sea United.
The squad had an edge in the combative part of the championships, reeling in 5 gold medals in the pairs exercise. But it was the athletes from Hong Kong and Macao making a distinctive statement in the routines event. They were more artistic and aesthetically superior.
This is the first time Xiamen has held a Karate championship, and the organizers hope more national and international competitions will make use of their facilities.
