Chinese 110-meter hurdling star Liu Xiang is back from his latest trip from the USA. |
Liu Xiang injured his achilles tendon in 2008 and was unable to race at the Beijing Olympics. Since then, he has undergone various types of treatment to try to regain the form that earned him Olympic gold in 2004. On his latest trip to America, Liu emphasized increasing his strength, along with continuing to work on his altered starting technique, which has seen him hit the first hurdle in fewer steps. That new form helped the former world record holder capture silver at this year's World Championships in South Korea, and it may have even been gold if not for a controversial disqualification involving Cuba's Dayron Robles. But what happened that night is in the past, as Liu Xiang and his coach are making sure that they focus on being in top form for next year's games.
Liu Xiang's coach, Sun Haiping said: "The series of tests Liu was put through shows he is recovering well, even he is not at 100-percent, like someone who never had this injury, but his recovery provides us confidence as we prepare for next year's London Olympics."
