In the ongoing volleyball Women’s World Cup in Japan, China and Kenya met as the teams count down to the tournament’s final days.
Kenya has not won any of its nine matches in this World Cup, and the side was a definite underdog against the Chinese. But the Kenyans showed good form, especially at the start of the match on Thursday. China eventually wore them down, taking the lead and pulling away after the first technical time out.
All of China’s stars played a part in this one: Wang Yimei, Zhang Lei and Yang Junqing were strong at the net and China coasted to a 25-7 first set win. Kenya started the second set with a slew of errors, and China took an 8-4 lead to the first technical time out.
The favorites kept their momentum with more attacking from Hui Ruoqi and blocks from Zhang Lei. China showed strong finishing power by increasing its margin to 15-6. Xu Yunli and Hui Ruoqui stopped any chance for Kenya to catch up, and China took the second set 25-15. It was the same story in the third set.
