26-year-old Eliot Soo is half Chinese, but spent most of his life in Vancouver, Canada. Now Soo has returned to China to explore his roots and gain an in-depth knowledge of jade, which he believes is the investment of the future.
While exploring the jewellery stalls of Beijing's Panjiayuan flea market, Soo met a Chinese family that has been selling jade for three generations. In China, jade has a special significance, comparable to gold and diamonds in the West.
Intrigued that a foreigner would show so much interest in the industry, the family agreed to mentor Soo. Their hope is that this young man will spread his newfound knowledge of jade to the world.
