The Peking Opera Culture Week kicked off earlier this week at the Shanghai Yifu Theatre, with the aim to bring more young fans to this traditional art.

The event began with two new stars of Peking Opera giving lectures. Young actors Ding Xiaojun and Lan Tian took off their costumes and wore casual clothes to get closer to young fans. The singers talked about their opera learning experience, some interesting things that happen during rehearsals, and daily hobbies.

Peking Opera is regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China, but is not so attractive to Chinese youngsters today. In order to promote and revitalize the "national gem", classic Peking Operas such as "Yang Si Lang Visits His Mother" and "The Legend of White Snake" will be performed.
