The father of deceased British singer Amy Winehouse is hoping to turn the tragic loss of his daughter into something positive by helping other drug addicts.

And he is seeking political backing to set up a drug rehabilitation center in his daughter's name. Let's find out more.

The late singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, met British politicians on Monday to discuss setting up a treatment center for young people. Labor politician Keith Vaz said he was grateful to Winehouse's father for drawing on his experiences during the talks.

Drug treatment in the UK is currently offered through local health bodies, or at expensive private clinics. But according to rehab' workers, there is often a waiting list for the local bodies, and private facilities are simply unaffordable for many.

Mitch Winehouse, Amy Winehouse's father, said, "This isn't about Amy. Because Amy, we were in a fortunate position of being able to fund Amy to go into private rehab. This is about people who can't afford it, that can't afford it."

Mitch Winehouse said he would be setting up the Amy Winehouse Foundation to help hundreds of thousands of young people who now find themselves in avoidable situations.

Amy Winehouse, who had struggled for years with drug and alcohol addiction, was found dead at her London home on 23rd July. The results of toxicology tests to determine the cause of death are due to be released later this month.
