The Russian Emergencies Ministry says at least five people have been killed and 30 injured in a plane crash on a Siberian river. A Russian plane was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines caught fire mid-flight.
The Antonov-24, a Soviet-designed aircraft, was forced to land on the River Ob in Russia's Tomsk region. A spokesman for Russia's Federal Investigative Committee said that the plane's tail section broke off on impact with the water. President Dmitry Medvedev suggested that the accident showed that the AN-24 model should be taken out of service. The crash is yet another in a string of transport disasters in Russia, including the sinking of a riverboat on Sunday.
