A 6.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Honshu island in northeastern Japan. The epicenter of the quake, which occurred just before 7a.m. local time on Thursday was located some 20 kilometers under the sea off Iwate and Aomori Prefecture.
A tsunami warning was issued for the Pacific coast of Iwate Prefecture. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties, and the high-speed Shinkansen train has not been disrupted. State broadcaster NHK reported that no abnormalities were observed at a nearby nuclear plant in Aomori.
