Song Zuying, one of the most capable singers on the Chinese stage, held her first solo concert in Taiwan on Sunday night.
The success of her concerts could blaze a trail for more top singers from the Chinese mainland to perform in Taiwan.
Clad in glamorous costumes, Song Zuying performed a program of Chinese folk songs for her debut in Taiwan.
In addition to her own best-loved songs, the soprano also rendered a handful of Taiwan tunes.
She was joined later by pop singers from the island, Jay Chau and Emil Chau, for cross-over duets.
Tickets to the Sunday concert were handed out free to local residents. So many people came that all eight thousand tickets were taken within four hours.
The Miao ethnic singer is highly appreciated both at home and overseas. Her former solo concerts at the world's top theatres in Vienna and Washington D.C have gained unanimous praises.
