The Taipei Lantern Festival has kicked off with rabbit-themed beacons decorating the city, in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Crowds were hopping on the first day, with technology adding new twists to the showcase on Taiwan Island.
Hundreds of people braved the drizzle, to view the opening ceremony of the Taipei Lantern Festival.
Students on their way home from school, like 17-year-old Hsu Yu-ying, were amazed by the brilliant spectacle.
Hsu Yu-Ying, Student, said, "I like the LED light display, and how it shoots out. I also like the water show, with the fireworks."
Chiang Wen-Hsuan, Student, said, "I think the theme lantern is nicely made this year. It's beautiful, and turns around 360 degrees."
Incorporating the latest technological innovations, an "interactive corridor" alongside the theme lantern gives visitors an opportunity to do more than just watch.
Images of Taipei's major landmarks are projected on a screen, where attendees can create floating leafs or fireworks, with just a wave of the hand.
More than 40 large beacons are also on display, most made by student groups and artists from across the city.
The lamps will be on display for 11 days, until February 20th.
