Seven children suffered serious injuries when about 100 students fell while rushing down stairs at a primary school in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The incident happened at noon on Monday at the Number Five Primary school in Aksu city. At least forty-one children were admitted to hospital. Altogether, doctors examined 120 children following the accident. Witnesses say the students were heading downstairs during a class break.
Some of them tripped and fell on others, triggering the stampede. A team of medical experts dispatched by the provincial health authorities is on its way to help treating the victims.
