Protecting tigers has always been a priority in China. With these wild animals on top of the forest food chain, if they become extinct, the whole ecological system could be threatened.

There are currently three types of wild tigers in China. One subspecies lives in the country's Northeast, about 20 in the wild. The other two types are South China and Bengal Tigers. only 10 South China tigers remain in the nation's Central and Eastern regions. The Bengal tigers live in the country's Southwest, and 20 are left. Recent years have seen a dramatic decline in tiger population. They are almost on the verge of extinction.

And illegal poaching is making the situation worse. Local authorities have been doing their best to protect wild tigers by forbidding trading of tiger related products, and have established 23 reserve areas. Meanwhile, a specific fund has been allocated from the Central Budget to compensate for the agricultural damage caused by wild tigers preservation.
