Monday marks the 150th anniversary of looting of Yuanmingyuan, Beijing's Old Summer Palace. More than 85 pieces of once-lost stone carvings will be exhibited in the imperial garden.
Most of the items, including stone screens and fountains, were voluntarily returned by individuals and institutions. Another 57 pieces of repaired cultural relics can also be seen. Yuanmingyuan was pillaged and burned by Anglo-French forces in 1860. This exhibition is one of the events organized by the Haidian District Government of Beijing to mark the anniversary. Others, including Sino-foreign culture exchanges and an evening party, will last through the end of the month.
