The Foreign Ministry says President Hu Jintao will attend a multi-nation summit on nuclear security in Washington from April 12th to 13th.
Leaders and representatives from more than 40 countries and some regional and international organizations, such as the European Union and the IAEA, will take part in the conference. The event is seen as a major move toward ridding the world of nuclear weapons.
China hopes the summit will achieve a consensus by all countries on nuclear security and yield positive results. The Foreign Ministry says China has actively participated in the preparation for the summit because of the country's opposition to nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism.
