After crashing out of the race at the previous Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren redeemed himself on Sunday, winning the Singapore Grand Prix from pole position.

The defending world champion was straight out of the blocks to go clear of the field at Singapore, the only F1 race to take place at night.

Things weren't so smooth for Timo Glock, who had a winglet fell off his car, but it didn't affect his performance too much. There would be more drama later on in the 19th lap, when Force India's Adrian Sutil crashed into Nick Heidfeld. The German immediately continued the race without the nose. But he would still have to retire with a brake problem. Luck was not going Alguersuari's way either as he pulled away on his pit stop before the fuel hose had been removed. He was eventually forced to retire as well.

Mark Webber suffered brake problems and crashed at the end of the finishing straight after 45 laps. That brought his race to an early end.

Championship leader Jenson Button started 11th on the grid, but produced a fine drive to finish fifth. Hamilton stayed out of trouble at the front and eventually went on to take the race win. The result was particularly satisfying for the McLaren driver after Monza.

Lewis Hamilton said, "But the track is fantastic and the fans here are amazing. There is always a huge crowd here and they have put on a great show here in Singapore again so I came here hoping to have a good result, hoping as I said to redeem myself after the last race and I think I did it and we are very, very happy."
