Taoist holy land an ideal summer resort
Adjust font size:

Praised by famous Chinese writer Qin Mu as the home of the clouds and a natural Chinese painting, Sanqing Mountain combines the imposing view of Taishan Mountain, the steepness of Huashan Mountain, the curling clouds of Hengshan Mountain, the waterfalls of Lushan Mountain, and the serenity of Emei Mountain.

Located in eastern China's Jiangxi Province, Sanqing Mountain was regarded as a sacred place for Taoists during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), when Taoism was in its heyday. The mountain, with 89.1% of its landscape covered by primeval forests, was nominated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2005.

The Taoist holy land, only one-and-a-half hours by air from Shenzhen, may become a backup breeding base for giant pandas after the May 12 earthquake damaged Sichuan’s Wolong Panda Reserve.

The mountain is considered an the ideal place for giant pandas, with its large quantity of bamboo, the main diet of pandas.

The place is also ideal for people seeking a retreat from the summer heat.
